The physicians at
OB-GYN Center, PA
provide extensive
evaluation and
treatment for
infertility.
Infertility is
generally defined as
a period of 1 year of
unprotected
intercourse without
conception. In women
older than 35 we
would start
investigation of
their fertility
potential earlier
than one year. The
prevalance of
infertility varies,
but occurs in
approximately 10 to
20% of couples. In up
to 70% of infertility
cases there is a
treatable female
factor. In the other
30% there is a
significant male
factor. Also, many
couples may both have
contributing factors.
At OB-GYN Center we
actively work with
both the husband and
wife to achieve a
pregnancy.
We recommend that
both the husband and
wife attend the first
infertility
appointment. That
will allow us to
obtain a full history
from each of them and
explain the course of
diagnosis and
treatment.
The 3 most important
diagnostic tests
include a semen
analysis (sperm
count), tubal dye
x-ray and a test of
whether normal
ovulation is
occuring. Additional
testing is added
based on either
partner's history.
We have extensive
experience in
treatment of
infertility in our
office including
aggressive ovulation
induction, tubal
microsurgery(including
tubal reanastomosis),
surgery for
endometriosis and
hysteroscopic
surgical removal of
uterine malformations
including polyps,
fibroids and
congenital
abnormalities. We
also work closely
with urologists who
have expertise in the
evaluation and
treatment of men with
infertility problems.
For the patients that
may ultimately need
assisted reproductive
technology (IVF) we
will expedite the
evaluation and work
closely with offices
that perform that
treatment.
Insurance coverages
vary widely for
infertility
treatment. Some may
cover diagnosis, but
not treatment. Others
cover none of the
evaluation or
treatment and some
rare companies cover
all aspects of
infertility. We
encourage you to
check your coverage
prior to your visit
to prevent unexpected
costs. We are always
happy to discuss
approximate costs for
each of the
evaluations and
treatments that are
planned. |
